¿Cómo traducir el sexto mandamiento (Éxodo 20, 13)? Veamos la evidencia. Mi biblia católica en castellano (Sagrada Biblia. Barcelona: Editorial Herder, 1968) dice: "No matarás" (p. 98). En mi edición de la protestante "King James" de 1611 (Londres: Ramboro, 1994), se lee: "Thou shalt not kill" (p. 38).

En los Diez Mandamientos pintados en la iglesia de Ludlow (1561), se ve: "Thou shalt do no murther" (*). Thomas Cahill, en su excelente The Gifts of the Jews. How a Tribe of Desert Nomads Changed the Way Everyone Thinks and Feels (Nueva York: Doubleday, 1998), traduce del hebreo: "You are not to murder" (p. 137).
